How to grow your international revenue: major focus for UK government’s week-long exports campaign.
London, 17 October, 2023: The UK Advertising Exports Group (UKAEG) will deliver a special programme of events for the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) International Trade Week which runs from November 6-9. The programme continues UKAEG’s partnership with DBT to support the industry’s global new business drive, showcase its role in the UK’s wider export strategy and the role of creatively impactful advertising and marketing communications in a brand’s international strategy. Companies from across UK advertising can participate in activities designed to help businesses, large or small, maximise their growth potential in international markets.
International Trade Week is the biggest export event of the year for the Department for Business and Trade, run to encourage all kinds of businesses from across the economy develop international revenue streams. Latest figures show UK advertising and marketing services exported £15 billion worth of services to international clients in 2021, a growth of 32.5% on the previous year, underlining the UK’s position as a world class hub for advertising. UKAEG is urging all companies from the UK advertising and marketing sector to engage with the programme and explore ways to grow their businesses internationally.

The UK Advertising Exports Group is an industry partnership with UK Government to accelerate profile and lead generation opportunities in key international territories including China, Japan, South Korea, North America and Europe. It is supported by the Advertising Association, the IPA, APA, BPMA, and the Creative Industries Council.
Following a successful launch year in 2020, UKAEG has continued to raise the profile of British creative, media and digital companies around the world. The inaugural UK House was a partner at SXSW in 2021, attracting over 2,000 attendees from around the world and an extended partnership with DIT took UK House to Shanghai International Advertising Festival (SHIAF), broadcasting to over 500,000 viewers. It also partnered with Cannes Lions as part of the GREAT campaign.
Through UK House, UKAEG has showcased over 120 UK companies to delegates joining from over 40 countries including Brazil, Japan, USA, China and the UAE. Over the last two years, UKAEG’s virtual trade mission to SHAIF has included 20 new business meetings, 15 showcasing and presentation opportunities and in 2021 it also hosted an exhibition of UK Cannes Lions’ winning work. UKAEG’s efforts in China have resulted in around £21.1 million of new business for companies who took part in the mission.
The UKAEG group’s plans for 2023 include a new business drive to Cannes Lions, Shanghai International Advertising Festival and Web Summit. The group also undertakes annual research into UK advertising exports each year, which highlights the importance of UK advertising to the economy. The latest research shows UK advertising exports reached a record £15bn in 2021, an increase from the £11.7bn exports seen in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
